The Geology Department will develop in each student, critical thinking, enthusiasm, initiative and the necessary skills to become lifelong students of Earth Sciences. To be a leader in the fields of geology, geophysics and hydrogeology, their applications, and culture to contribute to building the knowledge society.Emphasis will be placed on learning basic concepts and techniques through research, in an environment that promotes the development of professionals with social, cultural and humanistic sensibility as well as profound ethical values. In this way, the department will contribute to the enrichment of science and society through the creation and dissemination of new Zare:
• Prepare students for professional positions in public and government and for careers in academic research and teaching.
• Increase awareness of Earth and Environmental Sciences in liberal arts, education, and other science majors.
• Educate engineers in the geological concepts integral to competent engineering practices.
• Develop a greater awareness of geology in the general public through outreach programs.
The Geology Department provide the highest levels of education through continuous revision and expansion of our educational, research, and outreach programs in order to produce well-trained, competent, academic and professional geoexperts capable of responding to societal needs. To promote basic geological, geophysical and hydrogeological concepts, skills and creativity within a high caliber environment that provides society with knowledge, trained personnel, and competitive graduates capable of meeting the educational and development of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in all domains relevant to geology, geophysics and hydrogeology and their applications
• Students will develop the basic observational skills they need to function as geologists.
• Students will perform tests and collect data to analyze geological materials, features, and processes both qualitatively and quantitatively
• Students will apply critical thinking skills such as inductive, deductive, and mathematical reasoning to solve geological problems using the scientific method
• Students will synthesize the principles learned in the classroom, in the laboratory, and during field studies to identify geological features, interpret geological history, and solve geological problems
• Students will demonstrate the ability to acquire and communicate scientific data, ideas, and interpretations through written, oral, visual, and digital means Specific Geoscience Learning Objectives and Skills
