      The Cyber Club of Assabah Arts and Science College, in association with the Department of Computer Applications and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a Cyber Awareness Programme titled “Beyond the Firewall” on 11 August 2026. The programme was conducted under the monitoring of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) with the objective of promoting awareness about cyber security, digital privacy and responsible use of technology among students.
The programme focused on the need to move beyond conventional security measures such as firewalls and develop a culture of personal cyber safety and responsible digital behaviour.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Mohamed Koya MN, Principal, Assabah Arts and Science College. The inauguration highlighted the increasing importance of cyber awareness in the present digital era and encouraged students to adopt safe and responsible practices while using online platforms and digital services.
The programme was presented by Anamika and Zeba, second-year BCA students, who introduced the theme and key aspects of cyber awareness to the participants.


Objectives:
The major objectives of the programme were:
1. To create awareness about common cyber threats and online frauds.
2. To encourage students to practise safe and responsible digital behaviour.
3. To promote awareness regarding password security, privacy and data protection.
4. To develop the habit of thinking carefully before clicking links or sharing information online.
5. To encourage students to protect their personal and digital identities.
6. To emphasize the importance of cyber security in everyday life.

Major Areas Covered
The programme emphasized practical cyber-safety measures, including:
- Staying alert against suspicious messages, links and online requests.
- Using strong and secure passwords.
- Thinking before clicking unknown links or downloading files.
- Protecting personal information and maintaining digital privacy.
- Being cautious while using social media and online services.
- Recognizing potential cyber threats and fraudulent activities.
- Following responsible and ethical practices in the digital environment.

Outcomes:
The programme helped students to:
- Improve their awareness of common cyber security threats.
- Understand the importance of protecting personal and sensitive information.
- Develop safer online browsing and communication habits.
- Recognize the importance of privacy and responsible social media usage.
- Become more cautious about suspicious links, messages and online activities.
- Understand that cyber security is a shared responsibility requiring continuous awareness.
The “Beyond the Firewall” Cyber Awareness Programme successfully promoted the importance of cyber security and digital responsibility among students. The programme reinforced the message “Aware Today, Secure Tomorrow” and encouraged students to incorporate basic cyber-safety practices into their everyday digital lives.
The initiative reflects the commitment of the Cyber Club, Department of Computer Applications, IIC and IQAC towards developing digitally responsible and cyber-aware students. The programme also contributed to creating a safer and more responsible digital culture within the institution.
