As part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations and the observance of Chingam 1 (Farmers' Day), the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Assabah Arts & Science College organized a massive green initiative titled 'Ashokavanam'. Commemorating 80 years of Indian independence and honoring agricultural heritage, around 80 saplings were planted across the campus and surrounding areas. The initiative aimed to instil an appreciation for freedom, environmental conservation, and the sacred bond between farming and the soil among the younger generation. The plantation drive featured Ashoka trees, shade-bearing bamboo, and various ornamental shrub varieties, while also promoting the vital environmental message of ending plastic pollution.
The event was jointly inaugurated by College Management Secretary Razak and Management Official Hameed Kokkur. Vice Principal Dr. Baiju M.K. and NSS Programme Officer Abdul Rahiman P. were present. Environmental activist Shajahan Kadavallur attended as the chief guest and delivered the keynote address, having also coordinated the free distribution of the saplings for the campaign. Faculty members, student representatives, and enthusiastic NSS volunteers actively took part in transforming the campus into a lush green haven.
