BOOK REVIEW COMPETITION 

The Library and Resource Centre, Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, in association with the NDLI Club, organized a Book Review Competition on 30/09/2026  at the Library Hall. The program was held with the objective of encouraging students to develop reading habits, critical thinking, and effective communication skills through book reviews.

The program was inaugurated by Prof. Mohamed Koya M.N., Principal, who highlighted the important role of reading in the academic and personal development of students. In his message, the Principal encouraged students to make reading a regular part of their lives and emphasized that books helps the learners to broaden their knowledge, develop independent thinking, understand diverse perspectives, and improve their ability to express ideas confidently. He also appreciated the Library and Resource Centre for organizing activities that promote a vibrant reading culture among students.
The welcome speech was delivered by Sinoj A, Librarian.
A total of 17 students participated in the competition and presented their reviews before the judges. The participants demonstrated their understanding of the books, critical analysis, presentation skills and ability to communicate their ideas effectively.
The competition was judged by:

Vibitha VM, Head of the Department of Geology.
Saranya KS, Assistant Professor, Department of Malayalam.
After evaluating the presentations, the results were announced as follows:
First Prize: Fathimath Safa KK – BA English
Second Prize: Habeel Hafees – BSc Psychology
Third Prize: Risha Sherin – BSc Psychology
The vote of thanks was delivered by Safoora PK, who expressed gratitude to the Principal, judges, participants and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the program.
The competition provided students with an opportunity to move beyond simply reading books and engage in critical appreciation, interpretation and presentation. It helped participants strengthen their reading habits, analytical thinking, public speaking, communication and presentation skills. The enthusiastic participation of 17 students also contributed to create greater interest in books and reading-related activities on campus.
