Introduction
As part of the observance of International Youth Day, the Department of Computer Applications of Assabah Arts and Science College, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and under the monitoring of IQAC, organised a Debate Competition on 11 August 2026.The programme was designed to empower young students by providing a platform to express their opinions, develop critical thinking skills, and enhance their public-speaking abilities. The central theme highlighted the growing importance of social media skills and their potential to develop into meaningful career opportunities.
Objectives
The major objectives of the programme were:
To enhance students’ critical thinking and public-speaking skills.
To encourage students to explore career opportunities related to social media and digital platforms.
To develop students’ confidence in presenting and defending their ideas.
To encourage professional networking and the development of personal brands.
To promote awareness of emerging digital career pathways among youth.
Programme Highlights
The debate provided students with an opportunity to discuss contemporary issues related to social media, digital skills, career development, and the changing professional landscape. Participants were encouraged to analyse different perspectives, present logical arguments, respond to opposing viewpoints, and communicate their ideas effectively.
The programme emphasised the message:
