GENERAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON THE ROLE OF WDC AND ICC

The General Awareness Programme held on 25th September 2024 at Assabah Arts and Science College, focused on the crucial roles of the Women Development Cell (WDC) and the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) as statutory bodies within the institution. The event, organized by the WDC, began with a student prayer and a welcome speech by the WDC Convenor, Shajitha V. The Vice Principal, Dr. Baiju M K, presided over the programme, while the official inauguration was conducted by Muhammedunni Haji, General Secretary of Assabah. Mrs. Rubeena M Shajitha, Assistant Professor of English, delivered a key address, providing insightful and informative perspectives on the topic.

The programme was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of the WDC and ICC in fostering a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment on campus. The WDC plays a key role in promoting gender equality, supporting female students and staff, and organizing workshops on gender issues. It also serves as a platform for women to voice their concerns about harassment, discrimination, and inequality. Additionally, the cell works towards building confidence and enhancing the skills of women through various training programs.

Similarly, the ICC ensures compliance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013. It provides a confidential platform for reporting harassment and discrimination, conducts workshops to educate the community on their rights, and enforces policies to ensure safety on campus. The presence of the ICC ensures accountability and creates an environment where students and staff feel empowered to report any grievances.

The event also featured felicitations by Staff Secretary Praveen K U, Joint Convenor of WDC Jisha M K, and student representative Safa, who expressed gratitude to all participants. The combined efforts of the WDC and ICC continue to uphold the values of gender equality and safety within the college.
