HARITHA SABHA – ANNUAL GREEN AUDIT FOR SCHOOLS

The NSS Unit 240 of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, successfully conducted Haritha Sabha, the Annual Green Audit for Schools in Alamkode Panchayath, at GLP School, Chiyanoor. The initiative aimed to assess and enhance the environmental sustainability practices within schools, promoting eco-friendly habits among students and staff.

The program was officially inaugurated by Shaheer, President of Alamkode Grama Panchayath, in the presence of school authorities, NSS volunteers, and local dignitaries. Shaheer, President of Alamkode Grama Panchayath, inaugurated the function, emphasizing the importance of environmental sustainability and the role of students in protecting nature. School representatives and NSS coordinators welcomed the participants and introduced the objectives of the Green Audit.

Campus Environmental Assessment: NSS volunteers, along with students and teachers, evaluated the school’s environmental practices, including waste management, water conservation, and green cover. Energy and Resource Usage Audit: A detailed inspection was carried out to assess the school’s energy consumption, water usage efficiency, and waste disposal methods. Biodiversity Survey: The existing trees, plants, and gardens on the school premises were documented, and recommendations were made for improving green cover.

Increased Environmental Awareness: Students and teachers gained valuable insights into sustainable living and conservation practices. Enhanced School Sustainability Measures: Practical steps were identified to make the school campus greener and more eco-friendly. Community Engagement: The initiative strengthened the partnership between NSS volunteers, school authorities, and the local panchayath in promoting environmental protection.

The Haritha Sabha at GLP School, Chiyanoor, was a successful initiative, highlighting the commitment of NSS Unit 240 towards fostering environmental consciousness in educational institutions. Moving forward, the NSS team plans to conduct similar audits in other schools to promote sustainable practices across the region.
