The Anti-Narcotic Cell, Unarvu Counselling Centre, and National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam jointly organized a World No Tobacco Day Awareness Programme on 2 June 2026 at 2:30 PM. The programme was conducted with the aim of raising awareness among students and the local community about the harmful effects of tobacco use and substance abuse.
The programme was inaugurated by Ms. Faseela, Ward Member of Alamcode Panchayat (Ward12). During the function, Ms. Afeefa MK, College Psychologist, announced a free counselling initiative for individuals trapped in addiction, highlighting the importance of timely psychological support and rehabilitation services.
As part of the observance, students visited business establishments located around the college and conducted awareness activities for traders and shop owners regarding the legal implications of selling tobacco and other addictive substances to students. The campaign emphasized the responsibility of the community in protecting young people from substance abuse. The programme was coordinated under the leadership of Mr. Abdul Rahman P., NSS Programme Officer, and Mr. Anandakrishnan, Convener of the Anti-Narcotic Cell.
Objectives
• To create awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and substance abuse.
• To promote healthy lifestyle choices among students and the community.
• To educate the public about the legal and social consequences associated with addictive substances.
• To provide information about counselling and support services for individuals affected by addiction.
• To strengthen community participation in creating a tobacco-free and drug-free environment.
Conclusion
The World No Tobacco Day Awareness Programme was successfully conducted with active participation from students, faculty members, and community representatives. The programme effectively spread awareness about the dangers of tobacco and substance abuse, encouraged responsible community action, and reinforced the importance of counselling and preventive measures in building a healthier and addiction-free society.
