NATURE CAMP TO WAYANAD

The NSS Unit 240 of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, organized a Nature Camp Trip to Wayanad on January 23, 2025, to provide students with a deeper understanding of nature, biodiversity, and environmental conservation. The trip aimed to expose participants to the rich ecological diversity of Wayanad and create awareness about the need to preserve natural habitats.

To explore and study the biodiversity, flora, and fauna of Wayanad. To understand the ecological balance and environmental challenges faced by forest regions. To encourage students to develop a sense of responsibility toward nature conservation. To provide an opportunity for hands-on learning in a natural setting.

A guided trekking expedition was arranged through dense forests, waterfalls, and hilltops, where students observed rare plant species, birdlife, and local wildlife. Environmental experts explained the importance of forest conservation, threats to biodiversity, and the role of indigenous flora and fauna in maintaining ecological balance. Volunteers engaged in nature photography and note-taking, documenting their observations.

NSS volunteers participated in a small tree-planting drive within the camping site to promote afforestation. A reflection session was held around a campfire where students shared their experiences, insights, and thoughts on environmental protection. Encouragement for Future Initiatives: The camp inspired many volunteers to take an active role in tree- planting, eco-friendly practices, and conservation programs in their own communities.

The Nature Camp Trip to Wayanad was a transformative experience for NSS Unit 240 volunteers, fostering a deeper connection with nature and a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. The unit looks forward to organizing more such initiatives to promote sustainable living and ecological preservation.
