Department of Psychology in association with Unarvu Counselling Centre, and IQAC of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, conducted a Parent conference on 24 June 2026 at the Conference Hall. The conference was organized to create awareness among parents about their important role in supporting students throughout their academic journey and personal development. The primary objective of the event was to foster open communication between parents and institution, give an overview of FYUGP structure and highlighting the collective responsibility in students’ growth.
The Parent Conference commenced at 10:00 AM in the Conference Hall. The programme was inaugurated by the college principal, Capt Prof. Mohammed Koya M.N., Principal of Assabah Arts and Science College. In his address, he discussed about college discipline, critical role of parents in students’ higher education, the importance of four-year UG program and institution’s commitment to academic excellence alongside student welfare.
The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Nivya Vijayan, Head of the Department of Psychology, who welcomed the dignitaries, parents, students, and faculty members. The resource person Ms. Sushama K, the FYUGP Coordinator addressed the parents regarding the four year UG programme and it’s importance, explaining how parental guidance aligns with new academic framework. She also gave an overview of the FYUGP structure to students. The second session was led by Ms. Afeefa M.K., Psychologist, Unarvu Counselling Centre, delivered a talk focusing on the well-being of students. She encouraged parents to remain attentive to behavioural changes in their children and maintain open communication to prevent such risks. The conference ended with a vote of thanks by Mr Javahir, Assistant Professor of Psychology Department.
Objectives
1. To support and address the multi-dimensional development of students, specifically targeting their academic, emotional, and personal growth.
2. To provide a dedicated platform for meaningful interaction between parents and the college faculty, counselling bodies.
3. to educate and guide parents on their role in supporting students through modern academic framework (FYUGP)
4. To build a collaborative ecosystem between the home and the institution that secures the holistic welfare and success of the students.
Conclusion
The Parent Conference was a successful and impactful programme marked by active and enthusiastic participation from both parents and students. The event was very interactive and the meaningful interactions shared by experts equipped parents with the necessary tools to better support their children emotionally and academically.
