The NSS Unit 240 of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, in collaboration with the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Manjeri, and Taluk Legal Services Committee, Ponnani, successfully organized ‘SADGAMAYA’, a Legal Awareness Class and Campaign Against Drug Addiction. The initiative aimed to educate students and the community on the legal consequences of drug abuse and promote awareness about the dangers of substance addiction.

The campaign was designed to address the legal, social, and health aspects of drug addiction through expert-led sessions and community engagement activities. Legal professionals, law enforcement officials, and social activists participated in the event, emphasizing the need for strict legal enforcement and community involvement in tackling drug-related issues.

Legal experts from NALSA and DLSA provided an in-depth explanation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, discussing the severe legal penalties for drug possession, distribution, and consumption. The session covered the role of the Legal Services Authorities in providing free legal aid to victims of drug abuse and their families. Discussions also included the legal responsibilities of educational institutions and the community in preventing substance abuse.

An interactive discussion was held where students and attendees raised questions regarding legal procedures, law enforcement, and the rehabilitation of drug addicts. Social activists and police officials spoke about the psychological, social, and economic impacts of drug abuse, sharing real-life cases to emphasize the seriousness of the issue. NSS volunteers conducted an awareness drive, distributing posters, pamphlets, and banners with anti-drug messages. The program concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony, where students, teachers, and attendees vowed to stay away from drugs and actively participate in preventing drug addiction in society.
