The seminar section, inaugurated by the honorable principal on October 20, 2022, at 10:00 am, featured Mis. Deepth U M, the Food Safety Officer of the Korakkal area, as the resource person. The discussion centered around recent food safety issues and related deaths in Kasargode due to contaminated foods sold by restaurants. Emphasizing the importance of food safety practices, including personal and premises hygiene, best practices in food processing, proper cooking conditions, hazard awareness, cross-contamination prevention, and appropriate food packaging and storage, the session aimed to instill crucial knowledge in students. A detailed discussion on the Food Safety and Standards Act followed, elucidating its role in consolidating food-related laws, establishing the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, and regulating the entire food supply chain. Particularly beneficial for food technology students gearing up for careers in the food industry, restaurants, and related sectors, the seminar provided valuable insights into the FSSA.
