On December 13th, 2024, the Assabah NSS 240 Unit organized a Swachh Bharat cleaning program at the Primary Health Center (PHC) in Alamkode. This initiative was part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a nationwide cleanliness drive aimed at promoting hygiene, sanitation, and environmental awareness. The volunteers focused on cleaning the PHC premises to ensure a safe and clean environment for both healthcare workers and patients.
The event began early in the morning, with NSS volunteers gathering at the PHC. The volunteers were provided with cleaning supplies such as gloves, cleaning agents, garbage bags, and brooms. The team was organized into smaller groups to efficiently clean different sections of the health center, including the waiting areas, corridors, outdoor spaces, and waste disposal areas.
The volunteers worked diligently to remove waste materials, including plastic, paper, and other non-biodegradable items, from the premises. Special attention was given to areas that are often overlooked, such as behind the buildings and around the waste disposal bins. The outdoor spaces around the health center, including the pathways and gardens, were also tidied up to create a more pleasant and hygienic environment. The primary goal of this Swachh Bharat cleaning program was to improve the cleanliness and sanitation of the Primary Health Center, making it a more conducive place for both patients and staff.
The cleaning program was a resounding success, with a significant amount of waste being removed and disposed of responsibly. Volunteers were able to clean the entire PHC premises, ensuring a healthier and more pleasant environment for the healthcare workers and the patients who visit the center. The event also served as a platform for community engagement, as several locals participated and expressed their appreciation for the volunteers’ efforts.
