The Women Development Cell (WDC) of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, in collaboration with Unarvu Counselling Centre and under the monitoring of IQAC, organized an awareness programme on the topic “PCOS, Nutrition and Mental Health” for college students on 22/06/2026 at the College Conference Hall. Around 100 female students participated in the programme.
The programme aimed to create awareness among students about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), the importance of balanced nutrition, healthy lifestyle practices, and the connection between physical and mental health.
The programme began with a welcome address by WDC Coordinator Mrs. Hemalatha.The Principal, Prof. Muhammed Koya, inaugurated the programme. He emphasized the importance of students giving attention to their health and appreciated the initiatives of the Women Development Cell.The Vice Principal, Mr. Baiju, delivered the felicitation speech and expressed that such sessions help students develop a healthy lifestyle.
The resource person and chief guest, Mrs. Afeefa M.K. from Unarvu Counselling Centre, handled the session. She explained the causes, symptoms, and management of PCOS through proper nutrition and lifestyle modifications. She also discussed ways to manage stress and maintain mental well-being. Students actively participated and their doubts were clarified during the interactive session.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Hana Mariyam. She expressed gratitude to Unarvu Counselling Centre, IQAC, college management, teachers, and students for their support.
Objectives
• To provide awareness about PCOS, its causes, symptoms, and management.
• To educate students about the role of nutrition and lifestyle changes in maintaining health.
• To highlight the importance of mental health and stress management.
• To encourage students to follow healthy self-care practices.
• To provide a platform for students to clarify their doubts regarding women’s health issues.
Conclusion
The awareness programme organized by the Women Development Cell was highly beneficial for students. It helped them gain scientific knowledge about PCOS, nutrition, and mental health, and encouraged them to adopt healthy habits and prioritize self-care
