VEGETABLE GARDEN INITIATIVE AT HOMES WARD 5, 7

The NSS Unit 240 of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, in collaboration with Kadavallur Grama Panchayath, successfully implemented a vegetable garden project under the Panchayath’s “Adukalathotam” (Kitchen Garden) initiative. The project was carried out in Ward 5 and Ward 7 with the aim of promoting organic farming, self-sufficiency, and sustainable living among households.

The initiative encouraged local residents to cultivate vegetables in their own homes, ensuring fresh and chemical-free produce for daily use. NSS volunteers actively participated in setting up home gardens by providing guidance on soil preparation, seed selection, and organic farming methods. The project was supported by the Kadavallur Grama Panchayath, which supplied seeds and necessary agricultural inputs.

Households were encouraged to make use of available space, including backyards and terraces, for vegetable cultivation. Volunteers assisted families in preparing their garden beds, ensuring proper soil fertility. Seeds of commonly used vegetables like tomatoes, chilies, spinach, brinjal, and beans were distributed among households.

The Vegetable Garden Making Project under the “Adukalathotam” scheme was highly successful, receiving positive feedback from participants. The NSS Unit 240 of Assabah Arts and Science College remains committed to promoting eco-friendly initiatives and plans to expand similar programs in other wards in the future.
