The National Service Scheme Unit 240 of Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, has organised a significant community outreach initiative to observe World Diabetes Day. Scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2025, this event aligns with the global effort to combat the rising prevalence of diabetes. The program is set to take place at "Manasa Gramam," the unit’s adopted village, demonstrating the college's commitment to extending its social services beyond the campus and directly into the community where health interventions are vital.
The primary objective of the day is to spread knowledge through an extensive awareness campaign and the distribution of educational leaflets ("Laghalekha Vitarana"). The event focuses on educating the residents of Manasa Gramam about the importance of blood sugar monitoring, early detection, and lifestyle management to prevent diabetes. Visualised in the campaign by a glucometer reading of 120 mg/dL, the initiative underscores the necessity of maintaining healthy glucose levels. By distributing informational pamphlets, the volunteers aim to provide the villagers with tangible resources they can refer to for managing their health effectively.
This initiative by Assabah Arts and Science College stands as a strong example of how student-led organisations can impact public health. By targeting an adopted village, the NSS Unit 240 ensures that the message of World Diabetes Day reaches a specific, often underserved demographic.
